Thank You for Your Support: Kootenai RC Racers
Eric -
Thank you for your awesome donation items for our Hot August Showdown race. It went a long way in helping us raise fund towards our timing system upgrade. We really appreciate Factory RC Hobbies support of RC racing in northwest Montana. Here is a summary of our race weekend:
On August 6th and 7th, the Kootenai RC Racers (Libby, MT) held their fourth annual Hot August Showdown race series. Originally, this race series was a month-long points race where local club racers would race in selected classes once a week and the drivers with top points at the end won trophies and prizes.
This year, the format was changed from a month-long series to a weekend event. The change was made to encourage more out-of-town drivers to participate and help keep club members engaged instead of burning out over a long race series.
The change proved to be a successful one, as over ten area drivers confirmed they were going to show up. On Saturday’s practice and qualifying race day, seven out of town drivers checked in for racing, as well as 15 local drivers. Three of the out of town drivers were sponsored racers:
· Darren Hill – TLR / Horizon Hobby / Venom Power / KO Propo
· Matt Dortmund – HB Racing / Factory RC Hobbies
· Dustin Denton – HB Racing / Factory RC Hobbies
This was a first for our group, since we’re a smaller track in a small town. Everyone in the club was excited to have new folks to race with, and these guys didn’t disappoint. This year, we had three classes:
· 2WD Open: Made up of 1/10th scale electric short course trucks and stadium trucks.
· 2WD Buggy: Made up of 1/10th scale electric buggies
· 4WD Open: Made up of 1/10th scale short course trucks and buggies
We had to combine groups for 2WD Open and 4WD Open, due to the numbers of each group in the class. This made for some awesome racing, though.
Saturday was an excellent day for getting registered, practice, and qualifying. A couple of drivers had minor issues, but everyone had major fun. Racing started around 10am and finished around 6pm.
Sunday proved to be just as fun of a day as Saturday was, with a quick practice round for folks to make sure everything was ready for the battle through the mains. A Mains for each class was set for triple races, and since 2WD Open had the most entries it also had a C main.
All drivers gave it everything and in the end the results were:
2WD Open:
1st Place and TQ: Darren Hill
2nd Place: Steven Scheer
3rd Place: Troy Douthit
2WD Buggy:
1st Place and TQ: Darren Hill / Darren Hill - RC Racer
2nd Place: Jerad Fuhlendorf
3rd Place: Troy Douthit
4WD Open:
1st Place and TQ: Dustin Denton
2nd Place: Matt Dortmund
3rd Place: Ellis Rian
